Administrative Leadership Team  

Ryan Smiley


Ryan Smiley graduated with a B.S. in Sports Management from the University of Tampa. He has more than 10 years of non-profit management experience with the YMCA organization. He has filled such capacities as Program Director, Senior Director, Executive Director and Operations Director. In April of 2012, Ryan was selected as Director of Operations for the Boys & Girls Clubs of Porter County. In September of 2013, he was chosen as the President of the organization. He is responsible for the overall operations, financial operation and future planning for the Boys & Girls Clubs of Porter County.He has been a Rotarian for more than 7 years and looks forward in making Porter County a better place to live, work, and play.” In Florida, Ryan was recognized as a “Community Icon” by Lifestyle Magazine for his leadership of the Get Fit Weston initiative.

Ryan vividly remembers playing basketball in the winter-time at the Valparaiso Club over 25 years ago. He is very excited to provide the children of our communities the opportunity to “reach their full potential as productive, caring and responsible citizens.” He looks forward to making a positive and lasting impact on the life of a child through the staff, programs and services provided by our Clubs. Ryan lives in Valparaiso with his wife, Dena, and two children, Jori and Jack.

Mark Jones

Director of Operations

Mark Jones has been with the organization since February of 1992. He started out as Individual Services Director at our South Haven Club and became Club Director there starting in 1995. He then was Club Director as the Portage Club from 1996-2000. Mark became Director of Information Services and Facilities Management in 2001. In December of 2013, he then became the Director of Operations of our organization. He oversees all programming, staffing and leadership aspects of the Clubs and the Kidstop program. In October 2013, Mark received the prestigious Man and Youth Award, the highest honor a Boys & Girls Club staff member can receive. Mark earned a Bachelor of Science Degree in Psychology from Wabash College.Mark enjoys his work behind the scenes but misses the fun and excitement of working directly with the members at the Clubs. His fondest memories of working for the Clubs involve camping trips with Torch Club, overnighters at the Club, and running the concessions program. “The best part about the job was helping kids experience things they had never done before.” Mark was a member of the Valparaiso Club as a child where he played both basketball and soccer.

He lives in Valparaiso with his wife and three children.

Dan Welch

Director of Programs & Outcomes

Dan Welch has worked for the Boys & Girls Clubs of Porter County in a variety of capacities since 1992 including Individual Services Director at the Valparaiso Club (1993-1996), Athletic/Program Director at the South Haven Club (1996-1999), Club Director at the Portage Club (1999-2003) and Club Director of our Valparaiso Club (2003-2014).Dan recently took on the position of Director of Programs & Outcomes. As such, Dan oversees data tracking such as membership and attendance trends, club experience surveys and results along with overseeing grant compliance for the organization.

Dan has a Bachelor of Science degree in Child Development from Purdue University and is a member of the Boys & Girls Clubs of America Academy at both the Youth Development and Management Professional levels. Dan has been recognized for his work with the very distinguished award of the Man & Youth Award in 2012. Dan grew up as a member of the Cedar Lake Boys & Girls Club for six years.

Alison Martin

Director of Resource Development

Alison Martin started with the Boys & Girls Clubs of Porter County in November 2013 as Director of Resource Development. She began her career in the Boys & Girls Club Movement in 1993 as Director of Development and Marketing for Boys & Girls Clubs of Northwest Indiana. Throughout her 20+ year career with the organization, she had several position changes including Grants Manager, External Affairs Manager, and Vice President of Development and Marketing. Alison earned a B.A. in Speech Communication from Indiana University and an M.A. in Communication from Purdue University, Calumet Campus. Her numerous trainings include Leadership Northwest Indiana, Valparaiso Chamber of Commerce Leadership Academy, and Boys & Girls Clubs of America’s Advanced Leadership Program.

Her community involvement includes past Power of Alliance member and Member Kiwanis Club of Merrillville Breakfast, volunteer for Indiana Ballet Theatre, three-time nominee of Most Influential Women, and member of First United Methodist Church of Hobart. Alison has been married for 25 years to Tom Martin, Principal of Fegley Middle School in Portage. Alison has four fabulous children – Julia, Liesl; Thomas, and Alex.

Stephanie Hamilton

Special Events & Marketing Manager

Stephanie Hamilton is the Special Events and Marketing Manager for Boys & Girls Clubs of Porter County. A graduate of Ball State University, Stephanie received her Bachelor’s degree in Public Relations. Putting this degree to great use, she was hired by Valparaiso University and served as a team member in the Integrated Marketing and Communications Department. Her responsibilities during her tenure at Valparaiso University consisted of brand management, advertising, and special events. Stephanie was responsible for the billboard advertising campaign for Valparaiso University and worked closely on the university’s commercial titled “Where Passion Meets Purpose.” This commercial received wide public recognition earning three Telly Awards. Stephanie is no stranger to the Boys & Girls Clubs. As a child, she participated in league sports offered at the Club. Her transition from higher education marketing to Boys & Girls Clubs is a personal one. As she states, “I love working for a group that has an impact on the lives of children. To be part of an organization that has a positive effect on so many lives is very rewarding.”

Matt Tomczak

Director of Finance

Matt Tomczak is the Director of Finance for Boys & Girls Clubs of Porter County. Matt attended Purdue University in West Lafayette, Indiana where he earned his Bachelor of Science in Management. He has nearly five years of public school finance experience as he worked for both Hammond Academy of Science and Technology and Valparaiso Community Schools. Matt has a great understanding of the Boys & Girls Clubs Movement as he was a member of the Hammond Club of Boys & Girls Clubs of Northwest Indiana. Matt states, “Everyone within Boys & Girls Clubs of Porter County is very passionate about what they are doing. Attending the organization’s Youth of the Year Awards was a very moving experience for me. It is an excellent example of the impact our Clubs have on our members. I am excited about the work we do!” Matt lives in Crown Point, Indiana with his wife.

Kristin Scheub

Director of Human Resources

Kristin Scheub is Director of Human Resources for Boys & Girls Clubs of Porter County. She has ten years of Human Resources experience spending the last eight years of her career in an elementary school setting. She is passionate about promoting positive workplace relationships and a “team player” work environment. More importantly, her passion is to mentor teammates so their full potential can be reached, thus creating a positive, healthy, and safe environment for children to grow and develop into productive members of our communities.

Kristin lives in Valparaiso with her husband, of seventeen years, and their two sons. Members of Prince of Peace Lutheran Church in Valparaiso, she and her husband are on several committees and are very involved in their church family. Her sons have enjoyed many sports leagues and activities at Boys & Girls Clubs of Porter County’s South Haven and Valparaiso Clubs. Kristin loves the family atmosphere Boys & Girls Clubs of Porter County provides for both Club and staff members.

Beth Claxton

Office Manager

Beth Claxton has been with the organization since February of 2007. She started out as Director of Special Events and currently serves as Administrative Assistant. As such, she is responsible for all daily operations of the administrative offices and provides support for all administrative staff.Beth’s favorite aspect of her work here involves the occasional opportunity to interact directly with the members. An afternoon spent at our summer KidsCamp watching members play and do messy art projects was a lot of fun for her… even more fun than answering the phones!
